Board of Adjustment

The Board of Adjustment hears and decides appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative official in the enforcement of applicable City zoning ordinances. The Board also has the power to hear and decide special exceptions to zoning ordinances under its jurisdiction. Upon appeal in special cases, the board can authorize such variances from the terms of the zoning ordinance as will not be contrary to the public interest, where, owing to special conditions, the literal enforcement of the provisions of the zoning ordinance will result in unnecessary hardship, so that the spirit of the zoning ordinance shall be observed and substantial justice done. The Board also holds public hearings on such variances. The Board hears and decides appeals that allege error in an order, requirement, decision, or determination made by an administrative order (city staff) in the enforcement of the zoning ordinance. The Board also hears and decides special exceptions to the terms of a zoning ordinance and may authorize a variance from those terms if the variance is not contrary to public interest and, due to special conditions, enforcement of the ordinance would result in unnecessary hardship, and so that the ordinance is observed and substantive justice is done. The Board hears all zoning uses permitted on review. The City Planner serves as an advisor to the Board.

The following individuals were appointed or re-appointed to the city’s board of adjustment by the city council to serve a three year term. These are citizens who take an avid interest and pride in Blanchard, who get involved by giving unselfishly through volunteering their time and energy in order to make Blanchard “a great place to live, work and play.”
